dreaming_alone: Advice

My cat knocked a glass of wine all over my closed Powerbook (spare me the lectures, please). Anyway, the wine was cleaned up immediately and it appeared that none got into the actual parts of the computer. The Powerbook is working fine, except for one thing. When I shut it down, the hard drive keeps spinning until the battery runs out. I took it into the Apple Store today and they suggested that I pay $900 for a replacement logic. All of my "techie" friends are pretty much like "yea, you're screwed, there's no hope for you." I'm looking for some kind soul who might have a piece of advice, a suggestion, something a little more feasible that dropping another grand on this computer.

no clue.
though you could get a second quote at macauthority. i take it you're out of apple care? (though i don't know if that would cover this).

check the fixit forums.

one of my friends spilled wine on his, and even though it worked fine, the shop told him it was like a cancer and one day it would definitely stop. evidently it keeps corroding.

i've never done work on laptops, but you could also look into replacing your own logic board.

i've found good guides online for such things.

oh, and when shutting down, you can just take the battery out for now.
